An award-winning performance space
Just a two minute walk from the Music Building, the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts opened in April 1997 to critical acclaim.
Comprising of the 1,400-seat Chan Shun Concert Hall, the 200-seat Telus Studio Theatre and a 150-seat cinema, the facility is a superb rehearsal and performance home for the School’s large ensembles: Symphony Orchestra, Wind, Jazz and Percussion Ensembles, Choirs and Opera. The Chan Shun Concert Hall consistently attracts a new and expanding audience for the School of Music’s performance activities.
The Chan Shun Concert Hall boasts some of the world’s best acoustics and state-of-the-art sound equipment. Architect Bing Thom and his team designed the space to resemble a string instrument, with the audience seated in the reverberation chamber. Artists, critics and patrons alike are unanimous in their praise of the multi-faceted facility. It is now considered one of North America’s premier performing arts venues.
The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts is located at 6265 Crescent Road on UBC's Vancouver campus.
