The UBC Contemporary Players Ensemble perform the music of our time, combining masterworks of the chamber repertoire by internationally acclaimed composers with the world premieres of works by UBC’s outstanding composition studio. The ensemble plays numerous concerts every year at UBC’s Barnett Hall and in other venues such as the Belkin Art Gallery.
Among the composers that the Contemporary Players ensemble has performed recently are works by Ana Sokolovic, Michael Oesterle, Scott Godin, Carl Vine, Marc Mellits, Ali Askin, Gyorgy Kurtag, Salvatore Sciarrino, John Psathas, Tristan Murail, Helmut Lachenmann, R. Murray Schafer, Gyorgy Ligeti, David Jaggard, Ronn Yedidia, David Rakowski, Alfred Schnittke, Frederic Rzewski, Iannis Xenakis, Luciano Berio, Witold Lutoslawski, Alexina Louie, Howard Bashaw, Olivier Messiaen, Jordan Nobles, George Crumb, Toshio Hosokawa, Toru Takemitsu, Stephen Montague, Andre Ristic, Keith Hamel, Dorothy Chang, James Harley, Andre Ristic, among many others.
