Exchange and study abroad programs
Undergraduate students interested in studying abroad have a number of options, from short-term summer courses to year-long exchanges and international co-op programs.
Lotte and John Hecht Memorial Scholarships
Generously provided by the Johan Strauss Foundation, the Hecht Memorial Scholarships are available for advanced study of music at specified public or private institutions in Austria, normally during the summer months, but possibly during the academic year. Up to three scholarships, of approximately $3,950 each are offered annually.
Joseph and Melitta Kandler Scholarship for Advanced Music Study
An annual scholarship of approximately $3,600 has been endowed for a B.Mus. student in third or fourth year, or for a graduate student in the School of Music, to assist with the cost of pursuing advanced music training or research outside of Canada through a program of study approved by the School.
Royal Overseas League UK Scholarship for a B.C. emerging musician
The aim of this scholarship is to offer a young musician the opportunity, at the outset of his/her career, to experience the richness and diversity of professional musical life in the UK. The scholarship is designed to assist an outstanding young musician considering post-graduate study in the UK or Europe.
Killam Fellowships Program Awards
Provides exceptional undergraduate students from select universities in Canada and the United States with the opportunity to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in the other country.
UBC Go Global Program
The UBC Go Global Program allows UBC students to attend one of over 150 partner universities for up to two consecutive terms while remaining registered at UBC. In most cases, students continue paying tuition and students fees to UBC and remain eligible for UBC awards, scholarships and financial aid.
Applicants must meet with a music program advisor prior to applying for this program.
Summer School in Germany
Learn German in Germany through Augustana Faculty, University of Alberta. To receive transfer credit for German language courses completed through this program, students must obtain approval from the BMUS Faculty Undergraduate Advisor, Dr. Alan Dodson, prior to registering. Following completion of coursework, a transcript must be submitted to UBC's Enrolment Services in order for credits to transfer.

UBC offers a number of other scholarships specifically for students going on exchange.
Arts Travel & Learn Abroad Award for Students
Awards up to $2,500 each to undergraduate students who have completed at least one year (27 credits) in the Faculty of Arts and who have applied to a Study Abroad Program. In selecting recipients, consideration is given to strong academic performance and demonstrated interest in area of study as outlined in statement of purpose.
