We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Hedy Law as Acting Director, UBC School of Music from May 16, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Dr. Law is Associate Professor of Musicology at the UBC School of Music. She received her Ph.D. in Music Theory and History at the University of Chicago. Her research interests include eighteenth-century French spectacles (including opera, ballet, pantomime), the French Enlightenment, gender, Cantonese opera, Cantonese music, Chinese immigrants in the Pacific Northwest Region, and global music history. Her book, “Music, Pantomime and Freedom in Enlightenment France,” was published by Boydell in 2020.
At UBC, Dr. Law has also served as Associate Director, Graduate, since July 2022 and is currently Chair of the Arts Curriculum Committee.
