About
Canadian pianist Melody Sham is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Piano Performance at the University of British Columbia, studying under Dr. David Fung. Melody’s accomplishments in competitions include a Platinum award at the 6th Annual Pacific Northwest Piano Competition, a Bronze medal at the 2023 Vancouver International Music Competition, First Prize at the 2024 Vancouver International Music Festival, and a Gold Medal in the Chamber Music category at the 2024 Saint-Saens International Music Competition. She has received several scholarships, including the Faculty of Arts Graduate Award and the Johann Strauss Foundation Scholarship.
Melody has participated in renowned music festivals such as Orford Musique Music Academy, Seattle Piano Institute, and AlpenKammerMusik in Austria. At AlpenKammerMusik, she performed with esteemed musicians, including Principal Cellist Rebecca Gilliver of the London Symphony Orchestra and Principal Viola Matan Gilitchensky of the Dresdner Philharmonie.
Melody is also the co-founder of the Golden Ears Chamberfest, a festival dedicated to the promotion and enrichment of chamber music in Western Canada.
The festival is committed to promoting and celebrating chamber music in Western Canada by providing exceptional live performances, partnering with local charities, offering a children’s education program, and engaging with the community to foster a deeper appreciation for the arts.
As both a soloist and a member of the Nuages Trio, Melody will be touring China in the 2024-2025 season. Her performance tours span Europe, Asia, and North America. Melody is deeply committed to community engagement, having organized concerts under Western University’s CLEE project.
