Taylor Swift mania hits Vancouver

By Sarah Grochowski for The Vancouver Sun:

“University of B.C. professor David Metzer, who teaches musicology with an emphasis on pop music, attributes Swift’s cross-generational success to her ability to delve into different musical sounds.”

“Each of her albums is different, with not just one type of sound. And with that openness to genres, as well as making her personal experiences communal through lyricism, almost everyone who listens can find a sound they like or can relate to.”
Professor & Chair of Musicology

Dr. David Metzer pursues a range of musical and social interests across classical music, popular music, and jazz in the 20th and 21st centuries. He is currently completing a book on music and incarceration that looks at how musicians across genres have confronted the toll of the prison system on American life.
