It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our dear friend and composer, UBC Music alumnae and Sessional Lecturer, Jocelyn Morlock.
Jocelyn taught music composition at the UBC School of Music for many years. She was a dedicated music educator and who cared deeply for her students and the community. Her composition My Name is Amanda Todd, commissioned and premiered by the National Arts Centre Orchestra, won the 2018 Juno Award for Classical Composition of the Year. She was also the Composer-in-Residence for Music on Main (2012-2014) and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (2014-2019).
My Name is Amanda Todd, performed by the National Arts Centre Orchestra
Jocelyn’s lyrical and complex music was inspired by birds and nature and has been released on several CDs, including her recordings Halcyon and Cobalt, and appears on many others including musica intima’s Into Light and Duo Concertante’s Life Reflected.
Exaudi performed by Ariel Barnes cello & musica intima
The impact that Jocelyn has made on our School, students and music community is immeasurable. We will all miss her beautiful spirit, sense of humour and brilliance. We hold Jocelyn’s loved ones in our hearts. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
