Matheus Moraes joins Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony



We are thrilled to share that UBC Student Matheus Moraes (MMus ’19, DMA Candidate) has been accepted for the Principal Trumpet position with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony for the 2023/24 season!⁠ He is currently studying with UBC Adjunct Professor of Trumpet Larry Knopp.

“The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Music Director Andrei Feher have appointed Matheus Moraes as Principal Trumpet effective September 2023. Originally from Brazil, Matheus Moraes has had a long career as a freelance musician, performing with orchestras such as the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and Rio de Janeiro City Theater Opera Orchestra, as well as musical theater groups and popular music ensembles. After moving to Canada to further his studies, he has performed with ensembles such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Surrey City Orchestra, and Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. More recently he held a position with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra.

We are looking forward to making music alongside Matheus and to celebrating him this fall as he debuts with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in the 2023/24 Season!”
