Introducing Hyejung Jun, Assistant Professor of Choral Conducting

The UBC School of Music is excited to welcome Dr. Hyejung Jun, who is joining the faculty as Assistant Professor of Choral Conducting beginning September 1, 2022.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Hyejung Jun to the School of Music. Adding a second choral conductor to our faculty will ensure that our thriving choral program continues to flourish.” said T. Patrick Carrabré Director, School of Music and Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

Dr. Jun completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) where she conducted and assisted the CCM Chamber Choir and CCM Chorale, and taught undergraduate conducting classes. She has also served as Assistant Conductor of the Women’s Chorus at Xavier University.

She studied for her Masters at Yonsei University in Korea, where she was the winner of the National Choral Conducting Competition in Seoul, and Emory University in the United States.

Dr. Jun was awarded the May Festival Conducting Fellowship and was a finalist in the Graduate Conducting Competition of the American Choral Directors Association. She is also recognized as an exceptional singer and pianist.

“I am thrilled to be joining the faculty at the University of British Columbia, and I look forward to working with the talented members of the School of Music.” said Dr. Jun.

Dr. Hyejung Jun will take to the podium to conduct the Choral Union starting this fall. Choral Union is UBC’s largest choral ensemble. Comprised of 120 singers, Choral Union performs significant works from the greatest composers of choral music spanning the past five centuries.

Welcome to UBC, Dr. Jun!
