Congratulations to Hamilton Lau, winner of the UBC Concerto Competition!



Congratulations to Hamilton Lau (BMUS 2nd yr, piano) who won the W2021 UBC Concerto Competition with his performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in F-sharp minor, Op. 1.

Hamilton will perform this work at the next UBC Symphony Orchestra concert on March 19, 2022 at the Chan Centre, with Jonathan Girard, conducting.

Congratulations to Siliang Wang (DMA flute) and Jaeden Izik-Dzurko (MMUS piano) who also performed brilliantly.

The judges were impressed by the high level of performance from all finalists. The jurors also wish to congratulate the collaborative pianists for their excellent work in their support of the soloists.

The UBC Concert Competition is held every year at Barnett Hall in the UBC Music Building. The winner is invited to perform their winning piece with the UBC Symphony Orchestra and Jonathan Girard, conductor at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. This is a fabulous opportunity for these students to perform as a soloist with our fantastic orchestra. We are continually impressed by the excellence of these competitors.
