Public Notes

This course will introduce students to seminal readings in Music and Sound Studies, an umbrella designation that spans and integrates the fields of musicology, ethnomusicology, music theory, music psychology, digital scholarship, computer-assisted music research, sound studies, and indigenous knowledge systems. Such research includes—but is not limited to—work on music/sound/gesture created by humans, the non-human animal world, nature, and technology as found in performance, play, cognition, composition, artistic display, archival documents, and historical/cultural/religious/scientific thought.
