Research

Matthew-John’s DMA research is based around a phenomenological viewpoint of gender and sexuality expressed through an original musical composition. This work looks at the lived experiences of one queer person, and tries to relate this experience to the LGBTQ+ community at large, while also expressing intimate details that give outsiders an inside view. This work involves a lot of research into what gender is or can be, and what gender means to different people. A sample of this dissertation piece can be seen in the video below, called Jaded, Bitter, and Queer.
