The “New” Old Aud

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Old Auditorium

Today is the 10th anniversary of the “new” Old Auditorium! To celebrate, UBC Opera has released an archival video of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte from June 17, 2010 — the first opening performance at the Old Aud. Check it out, and be sure to read UBC Opera Director Nancy Hermiston’s note of thanks:

“It was ten years ago that we opened the ‘new’ Old Aud as a permanent home for UBC Opera. In those ten years the UBC Opera Ensemble has presented twenty productions on its stage, often in collaboration with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. The theatre has become a favourite performance and lecture venue at UBC and for the community. The Old Aud once again has taken its place as an integral part of UBC’s cultural and scholarly life.

I would like to thank the Board Members of the David Spencer Endowment Encouragement Fund, who have made it possible to bring our productions to you and to support the wonderful students attracted to our program. My sincere thanks to UBC, the Government of British Columbia, all the many donors who helped to make this renovation possible and to our subscribers and audience members.

Lastly, I want to express my deepest appreciation for your constant encouragement and support in so many ways of my efforts to make UBC Opera a go-to program for Canadian and international singers. I hope you all feel that your investment in this dynamic and cutting-edge opera program, in these wonderful young singers and in this historic theatre, has been justified and your trust in our program has been rewarded.

We are pleased to bring to you our archival recording of the first ‘test run’ of performances in the ‘new’ Old Aud, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte from June 17, 2010Enjoy!”
