Meet the UBC School of Music’s Quartet-in-Residence!

The University of British Columbia School of Music is excited to introduce the Carnelian String Quartet (CSQ) as its Resident Student Quartet. This graduate quartet-in-residence was founded in the fall of 2021 with generous support by the UBC President’s Office.

Quartet members: Conor Stuart (violin), Samantha Kung (violin), Caroline Olsen (viola), and Kitty Chan (cello) will be under the tutelage of UBC Music Professors Jasper Wood, David Gillham, Marina Thibeault, and Eric Wilson. In addition to performing for UBC events, collaborations have included performances with UBC Choirs, and composer Cheryl Hutchinson at the Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival. Enthusiastic educators and mentors to the next generation of chamber musicians, members of CSQ will maintain teaching studios and will be engaged in outreach and community events in the Vancouver community.

“This new program will be the beginning of a new chapter in the life of our String Chamber offerings at the School of Music,” says Jasper Wood, Chair of UBC Strings Division.

The CSQ was selected for their expertise in chamber music performance and their commitment to the excellence of chamber music at the UBC School of Music. As ambassadors of our institution, we know that they will reflect our core values to the university community and beyond as the 2021 UBC Resident Student Quartet.

Join us for their debut performance at 12p.m., on Friday, March 11 at Barnett Hall, UBC Music Building. This concert is free admission. Details here: https://chancentre.com/events/ubc-rsq-debut/
