The University of British Columbia School of Music invites band conductors of all levels to attend the 5th Annual UBC Wind Conducting Symposium, July 27–31, 2017. Registration opens at 12pm on April 25th, 2017. Stay tuned for full details.
Refresh your conducting skills and learn about band repertoire, score study, and rehearsal techniques under the guidance of UBC Director of Bands, Robert Taylor and distinguished guest artist Craig Kirchhoff (University of Minnesota). Participants will work with a live ensemble comprised of UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble students and attend professional development sessions, including a special seminar with this year’s featured composer.
Registration opens at noon on Friday, April 25th, 2017. This is a non-credit course with space available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Participants may register as Conductors or Auditors. Conductors will conduct a live ensemble during three of the four sessions. Auditors may attend all sessions, but will not conduct the ensemble. Student Conductors will conduct two of the four sessions and pay a reduced rate. To be eligible for the student rate, you must be enrolled full time in a post-secondary institution during the 2016/17 or 2017/18 academic year.
Conductors (limited to first 20 registrants): $600
Student Conductors (limited to first 5 registrants): $400
Auditors (limited to first 20 registrants): $325
UBC Tuition Fee Certificates may be used to offset the cost of this program, and Washington state teachers may earn WMEA clock hours for participation.
*All fees are listed in Canadian dollars and are subject to 5% GST.
