Sessional Lecturer: MUSC 201 — Musical Forms

The UBC School of Music is offering a new Sessional Lecturer appointment during the second term of the 2018–2019 academic year.  An Instructor is sought for the following course: 

Course and Title: MUSC 201, Musical Forms

Appointment Period: January 1, 2019 – April 30, 2019

Position Title: Sessional Lecturer, teaching Lectures and Tutorials

Load50% of full time (one term) 

Course content: Various forms in tonal music and rhythmic, melodic, textural, and harmonic processes that create them on small and large scales. Coursework includes compositional and analytical exercises.

Responsibilities: The Instructor teaches 2 lectures each week (one hour each), and 3 tutorial sections (one hour each) that explore and apply concepts and techniques covered in lectures. The Instructor designs homework assignments, quizzes, and exams. A Graduate Teaching Assistant assists with grading and occasional classroom duties. Candidates for this position must have some doctoral training in music theory, and experience teaching music theory at the undergraduate level.

Compensation: For 2018-19, the salary at base Step 1 will be $10,372.50, plus applicable benefits. Salary rates are subject to any negotiated increase under the renewed Collective Agreement.
