Sessional Lecturer:  Individual Instruction in Composition

The UBC School of Music seeks to make a Sessional Lecturer appointment in Individual Instruction in Composition for the second term of the academic year 2018–2019.

The Appointment Period for this position is January 1, 2019 – April 30, 2019.

Duties include teaching 12 weekly individual lessons, 60 minutes each, to each undergraduate or graduate student assigned, at a level appropriate to the student's program and year. We expect that between 3 and 6 students will be assigned to this position. Duties also include participation in the weekly Composition Seminar, Mondays 12:00 to 1:00.

Compensation:  For 2018–19, the base salary for individual instruction is $75.40 per lesson hour.  A suite of 12 weekly lessons for one student therefore has a base pay rate of $904.80.  Hourly pay rates are subject to any negotiated increase under the Collective Agreement.  Each set of 12 one-hour lessons represents 1.67% of a full-time appointment.  Compensation will also include 12 paid hours for participation in the weekly Composition Seminar.

The Employer will consider the Sessional Lecturer’s qualifications, teaching experience, and teaching performance, and will assign students based on student needs, student preference, specialization of the instructor, the need for continuity in student-instructor assignments, and instructor availability.
