Sessional Lecturer: MUSC 300 - Approaches to the Music of Modernism

The UBC School of Music is offering a new Sessional Lecturer appointment during the first term of the 2018–2019 academic year.  An Instructor is sought for the following course: 

Course and Title: MUSC 300, Approaches to the Music of Modernism

Appointment Period: September 1, 2018 – December 31, 2018

Position Title: Sessional Lecturer

Load:  50% of full time (one term)

Course content: Theory, analysis, and aural skills relevant to representative modernist music literature of the first half of thetwentieth century, introducing and applying concepts and methodologies from pc-set theory, 12-tone theory, etc.

Responsibilities: The Sessional Lecturer teaches 2 lectures per week (50 minutes each); 3 tutorial sections per week (50 minutes each) concentrating on compositional and analytical applications of concepts and techniques covered in lectures;  and designs and grades all quizzes, homework assignments, and examinations. Candidates for this position must have doctoral training in music theory, and experience teaching music theory at the undergraduate level.

Compensation: For 2018-19, the salary at base Step 1 will be $10,372.50, plus applicable benefits.
