Wednesday Noon Hours at UBC
The UBC School of Music is thrilled to announce the return of its much-loved concert series, Wednesday Noon Hours, curated by pianist David Fung.
The Wednesday Noon Hours concert series celebrates and presents internationally acclaimed artists from around the world, as well as distinguished Canadian and Vancouver-based musicians, including many who are part of our UBC community.
“We are thrilled to bring back the Wednesday Noon Hour Concerts at UBC after a one-year hiatus, re-starting a decades-long tradition with a rich history of featuring world-class artists. We look forward to welcoming students, staff and faculty members, as well as audiences from across Vancouver to this vibrant series full of incredible artists.”
We are excited to open the season on September 10th with the brilliant pianist Roman Rabinovich, winner of the 2008 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, fresh from his recent performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations at London’s Wigmore Hall. Later in the season, we will feature recitals by acclaimed pianists Helena Aung, Wayne Weng, and Lucas Wong—new members of the UBC faculty—each bringing their unique musical storytelling that draws from their interests and heritage.
One of the many highlights of the season will be a collaboration between Wayne Weng and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Elder Bob Baker, a profoundly influential cultural leader instrumental in preserving and sharing Indigenous traditions. Countertenor Daniel Moody, also a new UBC faculty member, will present a compelling recital traversing early and contemporary works, showcasing the full range of his voice.
We are also delighted to welcome Nathan Chan, who joins us as the acting principal cellist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and will be accompanied by pianist David Fung. Additional highlights include organist Angelique Po performing works by Joël Tibbits, Canada’s Looking Glass Ensemble, and Korea’s eminent flute and piano duo, Hyunim Yoon and Ju Yeon Shin, promising a season rich in musical excellence and cultural diversity.
