Nicole Linaksita (BMus/BSc'16) won First Prize at the prestigious 2019 Canadian Music Stepping Stone Competition. The win comes with a cash prize of $10,000. In addition, she won the prize for Best Interpretation of the Canadian Work and $1,000.

Orchid Ensemble's CD From A Dream, featuring works by Dorothy Chang, and Farshid Samandari (MMus’07, DMA’14) was nominated for an Independent Music Award for Most Eclectic CD.

Cris Derksen (BMus’07) was nominated for a 2019 Jessie Award for Sound Design/Original Score for the production Kamloopa. The awards ceremony will take place on July 15, 2019.

Elizabeth Knudson (MMus’06) was awarded a tie for first place (tied with Allan Bevan) in Chor Leoni’s C4 Competition for her work Ere Sleep Comes Down. She was awarded a Barbara Pentland Award of Excellence for Outstanding Composition. More info

The Vancouver Opera Guild Awards Committee awarded a $6,000 Career Development Grant for 2019 to Nicole Joanne Brooks (BMus’14, MMus’17).

Ramsey Sadaka (DMA student) won the 2019 Student Composer Competition Award presented by the Canadian University Music Society (MusCan).

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra recognized UBC School of MusicUBC Opera EnsembleUniversity Singers and several faculty and alumni involved with the orchestra as "VSO Symphony Heroes" for their exemplary contributions as part of the VSO 100 celebration on June 11, 2019.

MMus Composition student and pianist John Stetch released a new album entitled Black Sea Suite (Live) on May 1, 2019. Listen here.
