Liel Amdour guitar (5th year BMus student) was awarded the 2018 Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award, presented annually by the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto to a promising young Jewish artist. The award includes a cash prize of $2,500 as well as the opportunity to perform in recital.

Mia Gazley saxophone (5th-year BMus student) was awarded a 2018 Faces of Today Award from the UBC Student Leadership Conference. She was recognized for her outstanding leadership, and for her contribution to society on and off campus. Read more

The Jazz Epistles: Abdullah Ibrahim with guest Terence Blanchard

Named “South Africa’s Mozart” by Nelson Mandela, pianist Abdullah Ibrahim was a pioneer of modern jazz, and remains a tireless initiator of new artistic projects. Arrive early to hear the newest ChanFare in the lobby! The ChanFare for Feb 18 is written by MMus composition student Carolyn Quick, and performed by Azura Quartet (comprised of UBC Music students Eric Toombs, Mo Miao, Haley Heinricks and Mia Gazley). ChanFares are commissioned by the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. They are written and performed by students from the UBC School of Music.
