Aves-The Four-Chambered Heart by Alfredo Santa Ana
Ruckertlieder by Gustav Mahler, arr. by Alfredo Santa Ana
There is a long tradition of arranging masterworks of the orchestral canon in chamber form, offering a new perspectives and new performance opportunities for large-scale works. This concert showcases the exciting combination of countertenor Daniel Moody with a chamber ensemble made up of UBC Faculty and students presenting a new chamber reduction of Mahler’s Ruckertlieder by Vancouver composer and UBC alumnus Alfredo Santa Ana (MMus’05, DMA’10) (who’s chamber setting of the Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder has been performed across North America and as far away as Finland). The program is rounded out with a new work by Santa-Ana for Countertenor and chamber ensemble inspired by birdsong and the writings of 5th-7th century Benedictine Monks.
