UBC Contemporary Players and "The Readers Respond"
UBC Contemporary Players play an afternoon concert in the Belkin Art Gallery inspired by the exhibition "Beginning with the Seventies: GLUT." For this performance, School of Music composer Mariah Mennie (BMus student) will work with the UBC Contemporary Players in conjunction with the Belkin Art Gallery's final "Readers Respond" event as part of Alexandra Bischoff’s project, "Rereading Room". Mennie will compose a work that incorporates her own reactions to the exhibition, as well as the performers’ reactions in real time, through guided improvisation passages. The program will also feature Lied by Vancouver New Music artistic director Giorgio Magnanensi, which similarly involves directed improvisatory passages combined with a richly enveloping electronic track. For this session of "The Readers", we welcome Elisa Ferrari, Kay Higgins and Kathy Slade.
